I backed my first Kickstarter project last weekend, the i+case by Jason Valalik and Chungming Ying.
Dr. Sketchy tribute to Aeon Flux
10.11.11
The New York chapter of Dr. Sketchy recently hosted an Aeon Flux themed figure drawing session at the Bowery Poetry Club. Being a fan of the original animated shorts featured on MTV's Liquid Television I couldn't pass up the oportunity to sketch the most murdered female protagonist in animation history. You can view the drawings from this night under Figure Drawing.
Husein Hayoti: Design Theif (total douche)
7.12.11
Hussein Hayoti contacted me about buying the circuit board design from my business card. I declined the request and sent him a link to page of similar vector design found on iStock. He insisted that he had to have mine. Well, If he wants something i dont want to sell than I might as well que up a win win situation. $500. In hopes that he would refuse and conversation is over. Unfortunately, he was miffed, and decided to outsource someone in China to recreate it for him based off of the images found online. And he's talking shit about posting it on all of the free stock sites. Win Win? Not so much. Since I lost this battle I thought I'd try to sling some SEO dirt on Hussein Hayoti the talentless hack "designer".
New Business Card
6.17.11

Its time to update my old business card labels to match the Graviton brand. Phone calls have been placed and the wheels are in motion. Now I have to figure out what to do with the remaining 450 labels from the original design.
UPDATE: not really
6.8.11
I finally replaced the place holder images for the Graviton Theme for iPhone post under Projects. Same old stuff that most people have seen before, but if you haven't, check it out.
Change the Default Font in Illustrator CS5
6.6.11

Ever since Adobe Illustrator 5 I've become acustom to dufault font being Myriad Pro Regular. This morning after launching Illy CS5 it dawned on me that I have never used the Myriad font family for anything, ever. Why should Myriad get top billing when the most generic font is obviously Helvetica. I was going to make the switch, but as it turns out, It's not as intuative as I had hoped.
Graviton Haute Couture
5.17.11
We're venturing into unknown waters. Last summer I was in the market for a tailored suit. I visited the showroom of Alton Lane. I went through their high-tech full body scanner, picked out some colors, fabrics, styles, and I was on my way. One month later, I now have a perfectly tailored three piece suit of my own design. I was pleased with the result but it left me wanting more. I started to sketch some designs along with some light research on the process involved in turning a design into a sample. On paper it all seams relatively cut and dry but in actuality I'm guaranteed to run into expensive obstacles. Although the end goal is to make a standard Business Suit the construction of each component is totally unique (as far as I know). In the meantime, Graviton's Haute Couture Line will remain on the back burner.
The New [Temporary] Graviton website
5.15.11

While I was looking for talented AS3 developers to build my latest site concept, I stubmbled apon Royal by MBMedia. It is well built and equally well documented allowing for easy modifications with some general knowledge of AS3, CSS, and XML.

Below is the full transcript of our conversation. You may notice a time descrepency in his first back to back response. I have a theory about that, but anyway, Enjoy.

Husein Hayoti: Hi, what would i need to do to ask for your 'eps' design of that card, i really like the board circuit i a, very interested in that part, i have a free lance information systems job and like to have part of your design in my card. i already bought a printer and a stack of frosted transparent cards..
11:18 AM
Tatsuya Aoki: I'm not selling this particular design however I recommend you check out iStock. It will be far cheaper than what I would have charged.
12:34 PM
Husein Hayoti: I checked and bought some circuits designs, but i want yours, i would be happy to pay you. otherwise i can retrace your card in illustrator, although it will take some time i am asking again. see what you can do. i live in Saudi arabia, jeddah.
1:27 PM
Tatsuya Aoki: I generally dont sell EPS files. If you really want to buy something I dont want to sell then you'll have to pay me to not care about it anymore and that will cost you $500. You can redraw it if you'd prefer. If I were you I'd buy one of the vector illustrations from iStock and tweak the artwork to fit the space. Thats easier than redrawing from scratch.
8:43 PM
Husein Hayoti: if thats your price then ok i'll pay, i'll send you 500$ by paypal, give me your linked paypal email. i would like to have your 2010 card design, the back only (board circuits) for your 500$. regards.
2:56 PM
Husein Hayoti: I found a scanned front and back 2010 design of your card in google. I will give it to a Chinese guy to retrace it for 50$. You have a massive ego, I would have have paid 200$. Anyway thanks.
Jul 11, 2011 at 8:42 AM
Tatsuya Aoki: I made the hottest business card on the planet. Massive ego? Absolutely. Yes it's true the Chinese can recreate anything. Google "fake chinese eggs" or "soy sauce from human hair"
8:44 AM
Tatsuya Aoki: Correction: I HAD the hottest business card > http://www.behance.net/gallery/Hydro74-New-Business-Cards-(coins)/1454441
12:33 PM
Husein Hayoti: thanks but no thanks, i finally got the design with or without your help. you can hang your massive ego to the wall, all you'll get from me is my massive sarcasm.\ enjoy your boring life
12:50 PM
Tatsuya Aoki: Haters gotta Hate. Remember, the coolest thing you've ever done in your professional career is bite my style. You're welcome. Unoriginal Bastard.
1:03 PM
Husein Hayoti: ahahaa very funny, the coolest thing i ever did was improve your stupid design and make it available for everyone, i'll post it for free on all stock sites. links soon. bite me, get a life and stop bothering me.
1:04 PM
Tatsuya Aoki: Oh you Pakistanis are so uptight.
1:06 PM
Husein Hayoti: saudi arabian you stupid chinese. even a pakistani knows more about us. we can buy you and sell you over and over. go play with your cards.
1:07 PM
Tatsuya Aoki: Haha. It totally worked! Ya'rube.
1:09 PM
Husein Hayoti: douchbag. what are you 10? stuff your cards in your ass, it may brighten you up.
1:12 PM
Tatsuya Aoki: Whoa relax, Chief. Sounds like some one has sand in their vagina.
1:32 PM
Husein Hayoti: thats your mothers vagina

Change the Default Font in Illustrator CS5
6.6.11

Ever since Adobe Illustrator 5 I've become accustom to default font being Myriad Pro Regular. This morning after launching Illy CS5 it dawned on me that I have never used the Myriad font family for anything, ever. Why should Myriad get top billing when the most generic font is obviously Helvetica. I was going to make the switch, but as it turns out, It's not as intuitive as I had hoped.
These are the steps you will need to change your default font in Adobe Illustrator CS5 on Mac OSX SnLp.
In Finder: Users/{yourUserName}/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Adobe Illustrator CS5/en_US/New Document Profiles/ This folder contains the files you should edit. In my case I only do print and web so those are the files I opened. Once you've launched Illy and opened the file go to: Window>Type>Character Styles. Double-click the Normal Character Style. A dialog will appear for you to set the font for the style under Basic Character Format. Make you changes and Save the file. A Restart doesn't seem necessary but you probably should just in case there is a potential crash creeping around. It is Adobe after all. Damn Crash Masters.

For all intent and purpose Royal offers what I was looking for in a Flash site. The stock template includes Deep Linking, it's XML driven, HTML fallback, an intuitive UI, and most importantly it is SEO friendly. I was able to finish up most of the dev side adjustments to the template in 12 hours, that was the easy part. Now comes the grueling task of filling it with updated content.
